Nebraska Democratic Senator Ben Nelson wants you to pay more for your food. He wants to make the poor and the needy worse off, he wants the global food crisis to grow and to hurt each and every person even more than it already has.
Recently, Sen. Nelson called upon the EPA to increase the amount of ethanol production from grains; such as corn. It has already been declared by numerous sources and scientist that biofuel ethanol is not as environmentally friendly as it was once thought to be and it has already been explained that ethanol requires a load of energy from oil based fossil fuels to harvest and create.
Sen. Nelson believes that it is not fair to blame biofuels for the worlds food problems. He doesn’t see the connection between government subsidies paying farmers to quit growing food and to grow corn for ethanol production as a possible reason there is less corn and grains harvested for human consumption. He doesn’t see that any intelligent farmer is going to quickly move from food production to ethanol to make the extra government funded buck. He doesn’t understand that such a large portion of former food growing farmers just up and quit producing food and that some how, ironically, there is less food in the world. He doesn’t want to know the truth and he certainly does not realize that the amount of corn used to create ethanol to fill the gas tank of a single SUV merely one time could also be grown to feed a small village in the developing world for atleast a whole year.
Senator Nelson just doesn’t seem to get it.
